Description
The Insulin Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) test measures the level of IGF-1 in your blood, a hormone primarily produced in the liver in response to growth hormone (GH). IGF-1 plays an essential role in growth, cell repair, and overall metabolic function. This test is commonly used to evaluate growth disorders, monitor growth hormone therapy, and investigate conditions related to excess or deficiency of growth hormone.
The Process
A blood sample is collected to measure IGF-1 levels. Since IGF-1 levels remain more stable throughout the day (unlike growth hormone, which fluctuates), this test provides a more accurate reflection of growth hormone activity in the body.
